Welcome

Hello everyone, this blog is a nice way to communicate through the week about things related to Saint Barnabas Church. What has been done? What needs to be done? Who is bringing the ice cream this Sunday? etc. Feel free to add your comments.

  2. Hi everyone - I think we have some good positive energy at the church lately. Let's make a special effort to continue that. No, we don't have a mega-church income nor do we need one. We have good people and good ideas that we can forge into some good community outreach and that is what it is all about.

  5. hi there - a visitor to your webpage here - I'd noticed on your webpage before the recent updates that there was mention of a hiking group? I had intended to find out more (even though I'm happily settled in my own church home) but was waiting until I was back in town and now see no mention of it on the website - was this old information?

  6. Hi - sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. I think the hiking club is no more. Sorry.

  11. MB ... make you a deal, I'll bring you some frozen pumpkin, if you make some bread with it and bring it to church. Can you post a picture on this web. I was watching a series on a Romaina TV channel about "Who wrote the Bible" and it was enlightening. What Jerome and the other 3 "big" writers translated was so not what really happened and influenced by what they wanted it to say that now I'm going to have to read every version published to draw my own conclusion. This is going to take me about ten years if I read 10 hours a day everyday. I may even writh my version. Just thought I'd share this if you have internet TV.

  12. If the weather holds out, I will start on the lay-out for the staircase next week. Also, talked to my roofer and he can put metal on the roof for the same price as shingles. Something to think about. The metal has a 40 yr warranty and may add to the value. We have to install "fall prevention" so will put 40 foot ladder on the truck to reach the eves sometime soon.

  14. Glad to see a new comment. Retirees have time to write on webb sites. I think it takes a year or so to get out about of the work habits like getting up early and rushing around to get dressed and all that stuff. Pretty soon you will sleep late, don't worry about what you look like and eat at weird times. Hope I live long enough to level-out on some kind of schedule and get some pride about my appearence. Probably won't. I think this webb could be helpful if Matt makes enough house calls.

  15. Worked at the church today with a healthy crew and did enjoy it. Learned the importance of red blood cells ... ask Coleen. Got some good food that (you know who) prepared. Can I nominate Nola for "best cook in the world" award. Will have to finish restroom floor and base in kitchen next week along with starting the utility room fireproofing. Got to get started on columns for the HC ramp and outside staircase layout as well. Much to do. I have started inviting some friends to church. Later

  16. Thursday was productive. Looked like a bee hive at 807 Ellis. Marty outside, running for material, helping with Xmas stuff and the freg. Nola and Coleen handled the Xmas take-down, all the cleaning, food and all the misc. Me and Coach supervised ... no, we finished the floor panels in the bathroom and fixed the closet (that is the correct name for a toilet). We had a desert to die for. Next week we may get the utility room ready for the new furnance, Cut shoe mould for bath and kitchen, fix the urnal, wrap water supply in bathroom and may start a list of material for outside staircase. Hope we don't overwork anybody to the point of not answering the phone .. this would not be a good thing. All you have to do is say slow-down or "I've had it for today" This does not apply to Marty, work him till his nose bleeds. Thats what Nola said ... try to keep everyone posted.

  18. Thursday News..... update everyone on the work being done and the fun and food on the work-day. First, the food was great but Don got sick and couldn't eat.. me and Marty split his (not really) Don did get sick and had to leave. Hope it's not serious. There were some alter alterations that looks better and cleaner. Got most of the base and shoe mould down in the kitchen and finished the bathroom flooring. Only have to putty and paint to be complete. Big news is the heater and cooling coils came in and is sitting in the building. Didn't have time to unpack it but it didn't get damaged from trucking and is ready to install. Pputting this in the closet is going to be tricky according to Marty. I think it's a peice of cake. This 4 ton unit will be exactly what we need to match our needs. The big difference in units is the 4 ton break .. this means a bigger motor, more air flow, faster recovery..100,000 BTU so we can keep it cooler and hoter faster. A "smart thermostate" will do the job. May have to move the electric panel or extend the wall out for this. Nola did the calculations for insulation in the basement. This will prove to be a savings in HVAC cost. Brenda is too short to reach the floor trusses so will need help from taller people. Also, only alcohol kills the itch from handleing insulation so need beer for the workers. Next Week

  19. Think I forgot to post a comment last Thursday so will get you updated today. Work started late today thanks to Marty talking...I tried to hurry him but no way, then it was lunch, after that he wanted to take a siesta, I am glad we pay him for work done and not by the hour. No, he is a good hand and brings soome humor to the table so work seems like play. Would have liked to have worked with him years ago. Anyway, back to work done .. Cut the return air hole and rewired wall light. Put door frame in place and now it is time to set the unit and connect lines, should get this done next week. We are making progress and will speed up when weather is better. Not like we're in a tent in the cold, you would see some fast workers. The work will start on the staircase ASAP. Sorry everyone missed Nola's chicken and dumplins, that is a dish that every cook has thier own version. Nola's is simular to a lot of Southern cooks. My grandma's was more doughy and chunky ckicken and Brenda's is somewhere in between thiers. Funny how many dishes can be made different by so many people. Next week
